Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National park has Tanzania’s second highest population of wildlife, after the Serengeti. Tarangire is one of Africa’s little-known gems and a must for any northern circuit itinerary.
Boasting a variety of wildlife as diverse as its landscape, Tarangire is also the park that can boast being home to Tanzania’s largest population of African elephants. With four of the Big Five also residing within the park, it is a great spot for a day trip from Arusha.
Tarangire’s pythons climb trees, as do its lions and leopards, lounging in the branches where the fruit of the sausage tree disguises the twitch of a tail.
Location: 118 km (75 miles) southwest of Arusha.
Most travellers visit the Tarangire National Park from Arusha town, Kilimanjaro airport, or as part of a bigger package, including a visit to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Manyara.
Tarangire National Park offers many activities to the safari tourists.
The national park offers a good range of safari lodges, tented camps, and campsites within the park itself as well as the areas surrounding it. There is a varied choice of accommodation in Tarangire inside and outside the park and nearby Mto wa Mbu and Karatu city from all levels of budget, Semi-luxury, and Luxury lodges and camps.
